Etching with BIG

Dive into a two-weekend etching workshop led by Kate Baillies, exploring the versatile Baldwin Intaglio Ground (B.I.G.). This eco-friendly alternative to traditional solvent-based grounds offers the same results as hard, soft, and aquatint techniques without the VOCs. Participants will work on copper plates, experimenting with line, tone, and texture before printing with color using methods like à la poupé and viscosity. The curriculum covers safe studio practices, using Coffee Lift as a sugar lift alternative, and operating studio presses. Prior etching experience is recommended for this small group limited to eight adults. All project supplies are included, and access to studio equipment requires an Alberta Printmakers membership.
