While the World Was at War: Life on the Home Front – Walking Tour
Located in Glenmore Park
Step into the daily realities of Southern Alberta during the First World War. This guided walking tour explores the often-overlooked stories of those who kept the home fires burning from 1914 to 1918, moving beyond the battlefield to examine how the conflict shaped life at home. Wander through Heritage Park’s Historical Village to see how the war impacted classrooms, farms, and family homes. Visit significant sites like the Strathmore Standard, Thorpe House, and Gledhill’s Drug Store to uncover narratives of resilience, ingenuity, and the unique challenges faced by women, children, and farmers. The tour involves walking on uneven ground and passing through dimly lit areas, so comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. Please note that tours are weather-dependent and subject to rescheduling if conditions are unsafe.
