Gisela Romero – Mexicana

Calgary jazz vocalist Gisela Romero closes out the 2026 JazzYYC Summer Festival's Ironwood Series with Mexicana, a seven-piece project that weaves mariachi, son jarocho, flamenco, salsa and huapango into jazz. Sung mostly in Spanish, the set is a personal meditation on heritage, migration and identity, backed by a horn-heavy band featuring Esteban Herrera, David Lavoie and Carsten Rubeling.
