The Microsoft Global Hackathon is back, and the Calgary Microsoft User Group is tackling a big one: building a native Linux desktop client for Windows 365 Cloud PCs and Azure Virtual Desktop. This is a chance to help create a tool that lets users sign in with Entra ID and manage their cloud environments directly from a Linux machine. The kickoff session covers the project architecture, the specific technical challenges, and where you can contribute. The stack includes C#/.NET, MSAL.NET, Avalonia, and FreeRDP, but there are roles for everyone from UI design and networking to documentation and testing. You can join in person or virtually. This meetup is open to developers of any stack, Linux users, cloud professionals, and students. Bring a laptop if you want to start hacking immediately. It’s a great way to connect with the local tech community and work on a real open-source project.
