Explore the Blackfoot understanding of territory, boundaries, and belonging as Alberta heads toward a referendum on separation. This installment of Hot Dogs & Hot Takes on History invites you to look past colonial narratives and centre Indigenous ways of knowing in the conversation about the province’s future. Guest speaker Ryan Crosschild, a Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) scholar and Assistant Professor at the University of Lethbridge, will discuss Blackfoot governance and the territorial politics of prairie Indigenous relationality. The evening begins with a short presentation, followed by an interview with The Confluence President Jennifer Thompson, and concludes with an open discussion where attendees can share their perspectives on Treaty 7, settler relationships, and overlapping claims to place. This event is designed for those aged 13 and older who are interested in deeper conversations about history, jurisdiction, and community.
