Join the Chinatown Pop Up Movie Club and YYC Noodle Festival for an evening centered on food, film, and community. This screening pairs a feature-length culinary drama with a short local documentary, creating a unique blend of entertainment and cultural appreciation. The main feature is Cook Up a Storm, a 2017 Hong Kong film starring Nicholas Tse and Jung Yong-hwa. It follows two rival chefs—one Cantonese street food expert and one Michelin-starred French chef—as they team up to defeat a common enemy, blending Eastern and Western techniques in a fusion of styles. Opening the night is Pulled Strings, a short documentary by Calgary filmmaker Vicki Van Chau. It poetically explores the unspoken bond between a father and daughter as he teaches her the ancient art of hand-pulled noodles. Every ticket includes a special noodle tasting prepared by the MSBCA chefs, featuring Hung's Miki Noodles paired with Jonny's World Famous Rayu for a chewy, umami-rich experience. The event is supported by the City of Calgary Chinatown Activation Microgrant and benefits The Leftovers Foundation, which works to reduce food waste and support those in need. 📍 Malaysian Singaporean and Bruneian Community Association
